Wildland FireTrainer® O-250

KFT's Wildland FireTrainer® is dedicated to help educate fire fighters for the various techniques in fighting wildland and wildfires as well as sensitizing them for the various dangers they might encounter while fighting such incidents. Therefore the Wildland FireTrainer® provides a variety of fire scenarios designed to safely train firefighters in the approach and extinguishment of wildfires such as:

  • grass type ground fires located at the heel of the wildland fire trainer
  • simulate flame-spread from grass type fires to a major forest fire situation that includes flame-spread from top of tree mockups to tree mockup creating a Crown fire effect

Typical scenarios provided by the system are:

  • numerous tree fires with flames emanating on different levels
  • multiple mid- to large-size ground-/wildfires
  • various mobile, passive mock-ups replicating bushes, stones, etc., blocking access to the terrain

KFT's Wildland FireTrainer shall be used as a training tool to meet standards defined in:

  • NFPA 295 Standard For Wildfire Control
  • NFPA 1051 Wildland Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications

General Introduction to KFT Fire Trainer - Wildland FireTrainers

World's First Wildland FireTrainer®

The first „Wildland FireTrainer®“ ever commissioned in the world was implemented for the State Fire Service College SDIS13 in Velaux, France.

The system comprises of 24 tree fires, 2 large wildfires, 3 mid-size wildfires, 3 smaller wildfires and various passive wildland mock-ups. The tree fire places replicate two kind of trees - pine trees and evergreen oaks - which are typical for this area. The pine tree fire places consist of 3 independent burn levels.

All fire places can be centrally operated from the control tower by KFT‘s PC control system. Additionally local radio pendants allow instructors to manually operate individual fire places.

KFT‘s advanced PC control system allows such operations as programming complex fire scenarios, which then can be run on auto-pilot and be replicated 1-to-1 anytime.

Wildland FireTrainer® Control Station

One of the most dangerous scenarios fire fighter might encounter during a wildland fire is the so called „crowning“ which means that while fire fighters are focusing on a single fire, fires spread from tree top to tree top and thus might suddenly surround careless fire fighters finding themselves trapped. Of course such a scenario can also be generated with this training system.
